Essentially, his mind separated from the body as he was falling and he disassociated with the memory of the fall. Plus, yah know, he was brought into the darkness and all that.

So, his memories, for the most part, are intact.

Plus, the memories of his fall kind of came back around at the end.

And whelp, he then died after Lucemon had it with him.

Then, Takuya and co. go fucking beat the shit out of Lucemon. And run back to the Real World. Go to where he fell and discover he already got taken to the hospital.

They arrive at the hospital to see the doctors declare him dead or something.

And then the digivices glow and fabulous stuff happens. He jerks back to life while the digivices turn back into cell phones.

Not spoilerifying this because I assume most people have watched Fronter by this point.
