This is the Penang version of the "Chee Cheong Fun"...

Which was not the culprit....

The culprit was another version, not the Hong Kong style as well...

It's Central Malaysia version. Chee Cheong Fun with some yong tau foo... With the gravy but not as thick as the Penang version...

Cantonese version differ by the type of gravy.

Penang style has shrimp paste, which makes the gravy thick and dark.
Central Malaysia style has only sweet sauce and chillie.
Hong Kong style uses soup instead.
