These are some of the various Busou Shinki, apparently Mecha ones are more popular now, as the ones I remember had big badass swords. Then again that was at least 3 years ago. They are also more fanservicy than I remember. All though if they are more fanservicy now, that might have made them more popular....
Battle armor isn't supposed to be fanservicy. Just look at Saber from the Fate series, that's real functional armor. Hell, the series origin is an Ero Visual Novel....
