o.o *Poke* What mecha would you suggest to a mech-newbie anyway? I've never really given teh genre a chance
blade kinda enjoys mecha series that mix genres.
Some good movies are Appleseed, Appleseed Ex Machina (holy crap wall of bullets from a dual wielding cyborg versus cyborgs one of which wields a chaingun. That's just the first scene by the way), and Vexille.
Actually, if I remember correctly they rebooted the Appleseed series, I need to check that out....
Samurai 7. Possibly the best damn mecha series ever. The samurai killing mechs is just a bonus.
Skygirls was good, but that was kinda tarnished lolicon fanservice. Then again they nuke giant abominations using a sword (well that's a tiny exaggeration), but it's still cool....
Steamboy. Steampunk mecha of awesomeness. And Steam powered Jetpack, airplanes, and motorcycle.... It's just awesome. It's a movie by the same guy that made Akira.
Linebarrels of Iron. The fights are awesome, never saw the ending though.
Eureka Seven. Just a note, I only finished the manga, but comparing what I saw of the anime with the manga, I think the manga is better (saw at least a quarter of the anime, interspersed. Saw the ending too, manga is much better in that regard.)....
Xam'd: Lost Memories. It's kinda impossible to explain this one....
Megumi beat me to this one, but go to the library and find some Battletech/Mechwarrior books.
