fansubbing basics

hi, i have been wanting to help out with fansubbing for a while now, but know very little about it. i was wondering if someone could tell me about, or tell me where i could learn more about, the various steps and processes and skills used in fansubbing?

1. TLing - includes learning Japanese
2a. Editing - edit mistake made by TL, good english grammer
2b. Timing - Time the script to the audio
3. Typesetting - Make effects
4. Encoding - embedding the sub files into the video files
5. QCing - Quality Control, self explainary
6. Upscripting - Edit mistakes noticed by QCer
7. Repeat step 4 - 6

The only job that seems suitable for me is typesetting. If I can set some time aside every week, I might be able to help out.
