How do you say...?

I want to translate "Phoenix is an English word, meaning 'phoenix'!" into Japanese, but I don't know how to structure the sentence.

I don't know if 英語の字 is correct for "an English word", though. And I don't know how to incorporate the "for".

Please help?

(According to an online translator, it's フェニックスはを意「鳳凰」味する英国の単語である。 But for some reason, I don't think that's quite right. I get the 意味する part, but not the を in the beginning.)

it will be

_______ (Japanese word) って英語で _________.

Or vice versa.

Example:

車って英語で Car.

Thank you very much. But could you please explain the logistics behind the "de" at the end? I'm not experienced in Japanese and it would help to understand the function of some of the particles.

で in general, is a particle of means. For example: バスで学校に行きます。=>I ride a bus to go to school. In that sense, the bus is your means to get there so as to speak.

In Futa's statement, 英語で____ implies a similar idea, in the sense you call the 車 'car' in English - as how its called.

*MASSIVE BUMP*

*bump* Wow, I'm bumping a 2-month-old thread up by one on the front page. Whoop de doo.

But yeah, I have another set of Japanese sentences to be verified.

The announcer spoke again. "第一のクエスチョンは、81のスクエアルートは。。。何ですか?" (The first question is, what is the [square root] of 81?)
People started mumbling. Rachel said, "スクエアールート。。。スクエアールートは何を意味しますか?" ([Square root]... what does he mean by [square root]?)
Hikaru, who was thinking, said, "そうだ!彼は平方根で言いました!" (Oh! He meant a square root!) He raised his hand. "アンサーは有ります!" (I have an answer!)

I feel like there are still logical errors in these sentences. (And politeness errors. I haven't exactly mastered Japanese, you know. XD) Can you help point them out to me?
