Touhou Series
Well, so to say...
Touhou is a series of Doujin shooter games which are of the "Bullet Hell" genre. This series of games are distributed by Team Shanghai Alice and the games are One-man projects by ZUN. Meaning he does all the programming, graphics, music etc. by himself.
The main character is Hakurei Reimu, a talented but lazy shrine maiden, and the second main character who joins in slightly later is Marisa Kirisame, who is a hardworking Wizard.
Note that all characters are female, but it doesn't really matter.
So far, there are a total of 15 games, with the last one not completely released, only the trial version.

This is not the extra stage, however, which is harder.
Imperishable Night is Touhou 8, my favourite and is more milder than the rest. For more information, go to the touhou wiki(the search function is currently down)
